American artist Paul Alexander was born in 1937. Although he does do other artwork he is best known for his science fiction illustrations. If you know more about him or know where I can find more biographical data, please let me know.

Paul's only work for an Anne McCaffrey book was for the cover of the US Ballantine / Del Rey paperback edition of Get off the Unicorn, a collection of short stories that contains the most famous Pern short story of them all: The Smallest Dragonboy.

The artist clearly depicted a (rather wildly) hatching bronze dragon. Paul certainly read the story because on the bottom left we can see Keevan, soon to be K'van, with his splinted leg and in his white candidate tunic struggling to get to the Hatching grounds...
