Ruatha Bloodline
(Hanrahan Bloodline)

Introduction
The Ruathan (Hanrahan) Bloodline starts, as indirectly every Pernese Bloodline does of course, on old Terra. It was the Irish veterinarian Peter Oliver Plunkett Hanrahan, better known as Red Hanrahan, and his wife Mairi (whose family name remains unknown to us) who started this particular Pernese Bloodline and thus the line of the Lord Holders of Rua Atha, the Hold of Red's Ford; better known as Ruatha (also called Ruath) [CoP-FoRH; D1 etc.]. The Ruathan line has many ties with other Major Hold Bloodlines and with many dragonrider Bloodlines, but only a few are known to us.
Every family history has its ups and downs. According to Lytol there had been "exiled Weyrmen", like himself in the Ruatha family [D1/1:19], though non are found mentioned in the existing literature. There are, however, a lot of indications that the Ruathan Bloodline yielded a lot of dragonriders as well as (famous) Weyrwomen.
At the end of the Eight Interval the Ruathan Bloodline nearly became extinct. As far as Fax and his soldiers knew all true members of the Blood were killed when they attacked and conquered the Hold on that ill fated day in 2495. At the time of the invasion of Ruatha Hold by Fax there were several ladies and babies living at the Hold, which were all killed by, or at the order of, the invader [D1/1:20]. It seems reasonable to assume that at least some of these ladies and babies were of Ruathan Blood. However, it is certain that both Lord Kale, Lady Adessa and all their children, save one, were killed. All, save one... and thus begins the gripping tale of the Dragonriders of Pern. "Lessa woke cold..." [D1]. Of course there were members, more distantly related to the main Ruathan Bloodline, that survived, Barla and Gemma the best known among them. But even Barla escaped rape and murder only by swiftly leaving Ruatha, spending many Holdless Turns in various Holds, ending even in the Igen Holdless Caverns, the home of the desperate people on Pern, before she was able to return to Ruatha with her husband, son and youngest daughter. [RoP; GWHD]
Oh, how I wish old Runel (the old herdsman with the eidetic memory) was still alive because, contrary to Lord Alessan of Ruatha, I would love to hear him on the "begats" of the Ruathan Blood! [Mor].

To be placed: M'dani, Mairian, Sorana, dragonriders from Ruathan Bloodline [RSR]

Genealogy or Bloodline

First Pass
A-1 Peter Oliver Plunkett Hanrahan [Red, Peter], born Clonmel, Waterford County, Ireland (Earth), colonist, veterinarian, founder and first Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold (19), owner of brown fire lizard Snapper.
Married (probably in Waterford County) Ireland (Earth)
Mairi, born  (probably in Waterford County) Ireland (Earth), colonist, child nurse, first Lady Holder of Ruatha Hold (19).

The Hanrahan family and their direct ancestors came from Terran Ireland and lived on the family farm in Clonmel, Waterford County. Waterford County is situated in the southeast of the Irish Republic, Clonmel lies about halfway from the city of Waterford to Tipperary. The colonist family (father, mother and the two eldest children) occupied quarters B-8851 on the Yokohama and spent the whole journey in cold sleep. They were revived shortly before the landing on Pern, together with most of the other colonists. After landing on Pern they were assigned House Fourteen on Asian Square and went to work or to school. Beside having a very important job, especially during those first years on Pern, it was Red Hanrahan who actually founded the first Hold after the establishment of Fort. South Boll, established by Emily Boll's widower Pierre de Courci, was already in existence before the founding of Ruatha, but in Dragonflight we can read that "Benden was, of a certainty, one of the oldest dragonweyrs, as Ruatha was one of the oldest Holds..." [D1/1(s6):64]. I tend to take that particular quote literally, especially the "one of" part. Besides that, in the available literature Boll is called a settlement at the time of the First Pass. It is  never called a Hold prior to the founding of Ruatha [CoP-FoRH]. Things are further set aright by the song young Robinton composed about the founding order of the Holds: "Fort was first, South Boll then. Ruatha came and Tillek, too. Benden next and north Telgar..." [MHoP]. But as far as I'm concerned, Fort can be the oldest Hold and Ruatha the next oldest Hold, meaning that these two settlements were the first that received that particular designation.
From the existing literature we know that Mairi wanted lots of children, which she adored. In The Ford of Red Hanrahan it says that she wanted twelve children. She actually had nine but lost her eight child to fever (during the fever years). This information is found In The Ford of Red Hanrahan, one of the stories in The Chronicles of Pern : First Fall, in which Red says to Admiral Benden:
"Red waved his hand, his grin broader.  'Nine’s enough to ensure our genes will continue.  Ryan’s the last I’ll permit her.  And made sure of no more to come,' he added soberly for Ryan was born two and a half years after they’d lost their youngest to the fever." [CoP-FoRH].

Children (as far as correct order is concerned only 1,2 and 9 are sure):
1 Sorka Hanrahan, born Clonmel, Waterford County, Ireland (Earth) 27 BL, follows A-11.
2 Brian Hanrahan, born Clonmel, Waterford County, Ireland (Earth) c. 25, follows A-12.
3 Simon Hanrahan, born at Landing c. 2 [CoP-FoRH/121], died during the First Interval.
4 Pat Hanrahan, born at Landing c. 4 [CoP-FoRH/117], died during the First Interval.
5 Maureen Hanrahan, born at Landing c. 6, died during the First Interval..
About Maureen we know she was much younger than Brian [CoP-FoRH/122].
6 N.N. [Kevin] (son), born at Landing 8, died during the First Interval.
This child, which I supposed could have been named Kevin is identical with Sorka's "newest baby brother", born not so long before Sorka's first child Michael (M'hall) [DD/295].
7 Mairian Hanrahan, born probably at Fort c. 11, follows A-17.
Mairian became a queenrider and is one of the dragonriders from the Ruathan Bloodline remembered by the Telgar Weyrleader K'vin, who was of Ruathan Blood himself [RSR/DE].
Note: the right placement within the Ruathan Bloodline of the dragonriders Mairian, Sorana and M'dani, who are mentioned in Red Star Rising/Dragonseye, cannot be discerned from the books. However, permission to place them according my views was obtained from Anne McCaffrey herself in May 2001.
8 N.N. [Ellanor] (daughter), born probably at Fort c. 13, died Fort c. 16 (fever).
9 Ryan Hanrahan / Ryan of Ruatha, born at Fort 19 [CoP-FoRH/3:84], died during the First Interval..
Ryan was born two and a half years after Red and Mairi lost their youngest child to the fever [CoP-FoRH] and was the last child Red permitted his wife to carry.

A-11

Sorka Hanrahan, born Clonmel, Waterford County, Ireland (Earth) 27 BL, came to Pern at the age of 12 [DD/130], colonist, apprentice veterinarian, owner of bronze fire lizards Duke and Emmett (she had at least five fire lizards, probably even more since she and Sean has thirteen fire lizards among them) , rider of gold Faranth, member of the original first eighteen dragonriders and (first) Weyrwoman of Fort Weyr, died after 58 (survived the First Fall) [RSR].
Married (started living together in Turn 7) at Landing 8
Sean Connell, born Ireland (Earth) (probably in Galway County in the Ballinasloe area) c. 29 BL, came to Pern at the age of 14, colonist, apprentice veterinarian, owner of at least two brown fire lizards and a queen Blazer (menta), rider of bronze Carenath, member of the original first eighteen dragonriders and (first) Weyrleader of Fort Weyr, son of Porrig Connell and N.N. (Moorhouse?).

Until Thread started falling Sorka and Sean both studied to be veterinarians and were planning to settle in the Eastern Barrier Range on a stake with the proposed name of Killarney. .
Sean was a member of the Irish traveling folk contingent, also called tinkers. Sorka's parents eventually accepted Sorka's choice of Sean as her (intended) husband, something that took Porrig Connell quite a while longer. Sean's mother had chosen Lally Moorhouse as daughter-in-law and wife for Sean and sometimes embarrassed all concerned by pushing the girl at Sean on every opportunity. When she had nagged him once too often Sean told his mother that he would not breed so close because it was bad for the blood. Lally Moorhouse's father was Sean's mother's first cousin [DD/201]. This is why I have deemed it possible that Sean's mother's maiden name was possibly Moorhouse, too.
See the Connell Bloodline for further, known, descendants of the children of Sean and Sorka.

Children (at the time of the founding of Ruatha Hold, during the First Pass, children 1-5 were fostered with their Hanrahan grandparents):
1 M'hall of Benden (Michael/Mihall), born at Landing 8, rider of bronze Brianath (impressed in 22), co-founder and (first) Weyrleader of Benden Weyr, died during the First Interval.
Mate
Torene Ostrovsky, born probably Telgar Hold 6, rider of gold Alaranth (impressed in 25), co-founder and (first) Weyrwoman of Benden Weyr, daughter of Volodya Ostrovsky, mining engineer, and Sonja, mining engineer.
2 N.N. [Kenneth] (son), probably born Fort Weyr c. 10, died during the First Interval.
3 N.N. [Sheala] (daughter), probably born Fort Weyr c. 12, died during the First Interval.
4 N.N. [Solina] (daughter), probably born Fort Weyr c. 14, died during the First Interval.
5 Sorana, probably born Fort Weyr c. 16, died during the First Interval.
Sorana was fostered at Ruatha Hold until she was Searched at the age of about twenty Turns in 36. She Impressed in that Turn,
became a queenrider, and is one of the dragonriders from the Ruathan Bloodline remembered by the Telgar Weyrleader K'vin, who was of Ruathan Blood himself [RSR/DE].
6 Ezremil (son), probably born Fort Weyr (early) 19, died during the First Interval.
Ezremil is named after captain Ezra Keroon and governor Emily Boll [CoP-FoRH/123, 130].

A-12

Brian Hanrahan [Bri], second Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold, born Clonmel, Waterford County, Ireland (Earth) c. 25 BL, colonist, probably aged about 10 when he came to Pern, probably died during the first decades of the First Interval c. 85.
Married probably at Fort Hold c. 14
Jair, born on Terra c. 25 BL, colonist, mechanical engineer, probably died during the first decades of the First Interval c. 90.

Children (known):
1 N.N. Hanrahan [Peter] (son), born probably Fort c. 15, died during the First Interval.
2 N.N. Hanrahan [Brice] (son), born probably Fort c. 17, died during the First Interval.
3 N.N. Hanrahan [Olleev] (daughter), born probably Fort c. 19, died during the First Interval.
4 N.N. Hanrahan [Jairich] (son), born probably Fort c. 21, died during the First Interval.

A-17

Mairian Hanrahan, born probably at Fort c. 11, died during the First Interval.
Had a relationship with
N.N., born c. 8, died during the First Interval

Mairian lived with her parents at Ruatha Hold until she was Searched in 26. She Impressed that same Turn, became a queenrider, and is one of the dragonriders from the Ruathan Bloodline remembered by the Telgar Weyrleader K'vin, who was of Ruathan Blood himself [RSR/DE].

Children (known):
1 M'dani Hanrahan (Maidani), born c. 40, died during the First Interval.
M'dani, a son out of one of Mairian's relationship with a bronze dragonrider was Weyrbred and Impressed a bronze dragon in 54. He is one of the dragonriders from the Ruathan Bloodline remembered by the Telgar Weyrleader K'vin, who was of Ruathan Blood himself [RSR/DE].

First Interval/Second Pass
Descended from one of the children from Brian Hanrahan and Jair:

B-1

N.N. (Hanrahan) [Brian], Lord Holder of Ruatha, born probably Fort c. 135, probably died at the end of the First Interval.
Married c. 165
N.N. [Guinne], Lady Holder of Ruatha, born c. 135, probably died at the end of the First Interval.

This generation is necessary to create two separate lines within this Bloodline, one for the Ruathan Lord Holders and one for the ancestors of Weyrleader K'vin of Telgar Weyr ("Kevin of the Hanrahans"). Adding this generation here makes K'vin a great-grandson of a Ruathan Lord Holder, which places him at a safe distance from the line succession.

Children (known):
1 N.N. (Hanrahan) [?] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 165, Lord Holder of Ruatha and direct ancestor of Lord Leef's father (generation F-1), probably died at the end of the First Interval or early Second Pass.
2 N.N. (Hanrahan) [Kelvin] (son), born probably Ruatha Hold c. 170, follows B-12.

B-12

N.N. (Hanrahan) [Kelvin], born probably Ruatha Hold c. 170, probably died at the end of the First Interval or early Second Pass.
Married probably c. 195
N.N., born probably c. 170
, probably died at the end of the First Interval or early Second Pass.

Children (known):
1 N.N. [Vince] (son), born probably c. 195, follows B-21.
2 One or more other children since K'vin had four cousins who were dragonriders too. It is not known if these four cousins all had the same parents.

B-121

N.N. (Hanrahan) [Vince], born probably c. 195, probably died at the end of the Second Pass.
Married c. 218 N.N. [Kevalla], born probably c. 195
, probably died at the end of the Second Pass.

It seems reasonable to assume that this generation still used the family name of Hanrahan (maybe not continuously and together with the Bloodline-name Ruatha) since it is clear from Red Star Rising/Dragonseye that the Telgar Weyrleader K'vin was still known as "Kevin of the Hanrahans" prior and even after him becoming a dragonrider.

Children (at least three, correct order unknown):
1 N.N. [Vingard/V'gard] (son), born c. 219, a dragonrider, probably died during the Second Pass.
2 N.N. [Valeska] (daughter/oldest sister of K'vin), born c. 221, not a dragonrider, died during the Second Pass or early Second Interval..
3 N.N. [Allana] (daughter/second oldest sister), born c. 223, a dragonrider, probably died during the Second Pass..
4 K'vin of Telgar Weyr [Kevin, Kev], born probably c. 225 rider of bronze Charanth, Weyrleader of Telgar Weyr (257-?), probably died during the Second Pass.
Weyrmate, later mate:
Zulaya of Telgar, born probably c. 210, rider of queen dragon Meranath, Weyrwoman of Telgar Weyr, probably died during the Second Pass. Previously mate to B'ner of Telgar Weyr, rider of bronze Miginth. Weyrleader at Telgar Weyr (prior to K'vin), born c. 196, died (unexpectedly) early in 257, prior to the start of the Second Pass, due to heart problems. He was just in his sixth decade when he died [RSR/1:32].
5 Unknown number of children because in RSR/1:50 is spoken of K'vin's older brother and second oldest sister (being dragonriders) it seems reasonable to assume there will have been even more children than listed here.

Sixth Pass

F-1

N.N. of Ruatha [Faramund], born probably Ruatha Hold c. 1445, Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold, died probably Ruatha Hold Sixth Pass (probably prior to c. 1530).
Married
N.N. [Levina], born c. 1450, probably died early Sixth Pass.

Although not necessarily needed to be able to form the Sixth Pass Ruathan generations of the Ruathan Bloodline I have included Alessan's grandfather because he is mentioned by Alessan himself. When talking about the old herdsman Runel and his eidetic memory, which was valid for both the lineage of runnerbeasts and members of the Ruathan Blood, Alessan remarks to Moreta when she observes Runel would have been more valuable at the Harper Hall: "...his granduncle was a harper here and remembered more than was prudent on too many occasions (...) I think my grandsire made sure to turn the trait to less... ah, shall we say... remunerative topics? I believe there have always been blood relations in the Harper Hall, undoubtedly in the Records Rooms, scanning hides and committing them to memory before the ink fades completely." This seems a fair indication of a certain number of extra-marital relationships by this unknown father of Lord Leef. Leri also, more or less, comments on the virility of  Alessan's grandfather. When Moreta says Alessan could be quite a temptation, Leri remarks that Alessan seems to have got over the death of Suriana ("that wild one he married") and goes on: "Now, his grandfather, Leef's sire... Ah, no, you'll have heard all that." Actually, Moreta had not and now we too will be probably kept in the dark forever...

Children (known):
1 Leef of Ruatha, born probably Ruatha Hold c. 1475, follows F-11.
2 An unknown number of legitimate children.
3 An unknown number of illegitimate children.

F-11

Leef of Ruatha, born probably Ruatha Hold c. 1475, Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold, died Ruatha Hold (probably late) 1539.
Married:
Oma, Lady Holder of Ruatha Hold, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).

Lord Leef had ten legitimate sons, none of whom had known which would be named his successor. Lord Leef kept the whole tangle of them in hand, preventing discord. However, when Alessan was Searched (in 1529, when he was already about twenty Turns of age) he was not allowed to go to the Weyr on the grounds that he was eligible for the succession.
Despite Threadfall and the other dangers of a Pass, Lord Leef had contrived to build several new holds into the sides of Ruatha's steep valleys, to accommodate the worthiest of his sons and their families. He had planned ahead for the end of the Pass as well as for an orderly succession.
Oklina is definitely the only daughter of Lord Leef alive after the plague and very possibly the only (legitimate) daughter he had. On a whim I decided not to make her the very youngest member of the family and thus placed the birth of one son after hers.
Lady Oma's ancestral Hold is unknown to us. She is described in Moreta as a virtuous woman. Shortly before she also succumbed to the plague, she was trying to get Alessan married again, preferably to some advantage. She seems to have favored an alliance with one of the Fort daughters who attended the Gather and was granted this wish although Alessan did not marry a member of the Fort family that attended the ill fated Ruathan Gather.

Children (correct order after first three unsure):
1 Makfar of Ruatha, born Ruatha Hold 1507, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).
Married c. 1505
N.N., probably died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (as a victim of the plague).
Makfar is mentioned (by Leri) in Moreta as the elder brother of Alessan, whom she considered to have "more guts" than Makfar. Makfar had already left Ruatha when the message came through about the highly infectious disease spreading over Pern and was recalled by his brother. He must have a wife and family since concerning his return to Ruatha we can read in Moreta: "Then Makfar's family wagon thundered in". It is implied that Makfar was not very happy with the fact that his younger brother succeeding their father as Lord of Ruatha, but he staunchly supported his brother in the bleak, short time before his death from the plague.
2 Alessan of Ruatha, born Ruatha Hold c. 1509, follows F-12.
3 Dangel of Ruatha, born Ruatha Hold c. 1511, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).
4 N.N. [Leedan] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1513, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).
5 N.N. [Efstan] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1515, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).
6 N.N. [Pelgrom] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1517, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).
7 N.N. [Thomaz] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1520, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).
8 N.N. [Rangail] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1522, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).
9 Oklina of Ruatha / Oklina of Fort Weyr, born Ruatha Hold c. 1525, rider of queen Hannath (impressed 1541), follows F-19.
10 N.N. [Toboali], born Ruatha Hold c. 1527, died Ruatha Hold third-month 1541 (victim of the plague).

F-12

Alessan of Ruatha, Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold (confirmed 1 first-month 1540), born probably Ruatha Hold c. 1507, died during the Sixth Interval (certainly after 11 third-month 1553).
Married 1st:
Suriana of Misty Hold, born probably Misty Hold (Tillek) c. 1510, died 1539 (horse riding accident), daughter of N.N., Lord Holder of Misty Hold, and N.N., Lady Holder of Misty Hold (no issue).
Had a (very short) relationship with:
Moreta of Fort Weyr, born on a Hold in Keroon c. 1515, rider of queen Orlith (impressed 1530), Weyrwoman of Fort Weyr, died Keroon 22 third-month 1541 (no issue).
Married 2nd: Ruatha Hold fourth-month 1541
Nerilka of Fort/Ruatha [Rill], Lady Holder of Ruatha Hold, born probably at Fort Hold c. 1515, was fostered at Misty Hold (Tillek), , died during the Sixth Interval (certainly after 11 third-month 1553), daughter of Tolocamp of Fort, Lord Holder of Fort Hold, and Pendra, Lady Holder of Fort Hold.

Alessan was Searched in 1529, twelve Turns before the outbreak of the Plague, but not allowed to go to the Weyr by his father Lord Leef on the grounds that he was eligible for the succession. It was either in that Turn, or shortly after, that Lord Leef made clear his choice of successor. After the plague Alessan's only (surviving?) sister Oklina was Searched and allowed by him to go to the Weyr on the condition that her children would return to Ruatha.
Suriana, Alessan's first wife, called "a wild one" by Leri, was a friend of Alessan's second wife, Nerilka of Fort. The two women had become very close friends when Nerilka was fostered at Suariana's ancestral Misty Hold in Tillek.
Nerilka left her ancestral Hold in secret because she couldn't stomach the way her father behaved after he returned from Ruatha, where his first wife and many of his daughter died from the plague. Upon hearing of his wife's death he immediately installed his mistress Anella as the future Lady Holder and refused to help out Masterhealer Capiam with much needed medicinal needs from the more than adequate stores of Fort Hold. Nerilka at first helped nurse the people in the Fort internment camp and later made her way from there to Ruatha. Here she stayed incognito at first and helped wherever needed. It was unknown to her that she was recognized by Alessan, who later agreed to marry her to take care of the much needed offspring to make sure of a continuation of the Ruathan Bloodline, on the condition that she would let him commit suicide after the continuation of the Bloodline was safe. Fortunately Alessan later came to love Nerilka, who loved Alessan with all her heart, and did not demand this sacrifice of her.
I've mentioned the very short relationship Alessan had with Moreta because I feel that, if Moreta had not lost her life so tragically, that particular relationship could well have become a scandalously (to the Pernese at least) long and notorious one between a Lord Holder and a Weyrwoman (albeit during an Interval).

Children out of the marriage with Nerilka (there were possibly more children than these five though Alessan did not want Nerilka to overbear):
1 N.N. [Allain] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1542, died during the Sixth Interval.
2 N.N. [Suringar] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1544, died during the Sixth Interval.
3 N.N. [Danfar] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1546, died during the Sixth Interval.
4 N.N. [Nerin] (son), born Ruatha Hold c. 1548, died during the Sixth Interval.
5 Moreta of Ruatha/Benden, born Ruatha Hold c. 1550, died during the Sixth Interval
This Moreta, named after the Fort Weyrwoman who died so valiantly, became a Weyrwoman too, at Benden Weyr. She also was one of those rare Weyrwomen that could hear all dragons, like Less. This is the reason why the two Moreta's are "mixed up" and why the older Moreta was later thought to have been a Benden Weyr Weyrwoman of the Ruathan Blood [D1]
.
Note: The information given above (except for the fact that Alessan and Nerilka had a daughter Moreta, which Nerilka herself tells us in her story) can not be gleaned from the books but was stated by Anne McCaffrey herself when she was questioned about this by fans at the Kitchen Table Live, the live chat room of her site The Worlds of Anne McCaffrey.

F-19

Oklina of Ruatha / Oklina of Fort Weyr, born Ruatha Hold c. 1525, rider of queen Hannath (impressed Fort Weyr 23 fourth-month 1541), died during the Sixth Interval.
Mate:
B'lerion of High Reaches Weyr, born c. 1515, rider of bronze Nabeth, wingleader at High Reaches Weyr [Mor]
, died during the Sixth Interval.
At some time between 1530 and 1540 (before Moreta was transferred to Fort Weyr), B'lerion had a (weyrmate) relationship with
Moreta of Fort Weyr, born on a Hold in Keroon c. 1515, rider of queen Orlith (impressed 1530), Weyrwoman of Fort Weyr, died Keroon 22 third-month 1541. Out of this relationship came one son, Moreta of Fort's third child.

Next to Alessan Oklina was the only full blooded Ruathan to survive the plague. After she was officially Searched Alessan allowed Oklina, his only remaining full-blooded relative, to be a candidate for the queen egg at Fort Weyr (the queen egg of Orlith's last clutch) on the condition that her children would be returned to Ruatha.
Oklina (and B'lerion, whose Nabeth flew Hannath on her first mating flight and probably many a time after) might have had only two sons, who were indeed returned to Ruatha. It seems possible that she also had one or more daughters, for whom it may not have necessary to return to Ruatha.

Children (known):
1 N.N. [Allerion] (son), born probably Fort Weyr c. 1544, raised at Ruatha Hold, died during the Sixth Interval.
2 N.N. [Klinsman] (son), born probably Fort Weyr c. 1546, raised at Ruatha Hold, died during the Sixth Interval.

N.N.
[Flisha], born probably c. 1980, died early Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).

It is unknown if Mardra's father, and the subsequent mentioned Ruathan Bloodline members, are descended from one of the children of Alessan and Nerilka or from one of the children of Oklina (and B'lerion).

Children (known):
1 Mardra of Ruatha / of Fort Weyr, born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2010, rider of queen Loranth, Weyrwoman of Fort Weyr, was exiled to Southern Weyr where she also assumed the role of Weyrwoman, died Southern Weyr during the Ninth Pass (after 2522).

Adding this generation (Lord Ashmichel's great-grandparents) to the Ruathan Bloodline seems to be totally superfluous because it is followed by even more generations of which the names of the members are unknown. However, it is necessary to begin this Bloodline with so many  "unknown" generations to make it possible to put in Lady Gemma of Crom as a third cousin of Lord Kale, as she is mentioned to be in The Masterharper of Pern and All the Weyrs of Pern. Third cousins have the same great-great-grandparents. One could argue that maybe Lady Gemma was a third cousin of Lord Ashmichel but that seems unlikely because that would affect her Turn of birth too much, while using the current hypothesis (Lady Gemma being a third cousin of Lord Kale) would place Lady Gemma's birth about Turn 2460 (which is needed because she gave birth to Jaxom in 2505). She cannot be older than 55 Turns when giving birth to her last and much welcomed child, not even when we accept that Pernese people were more vigorous and lived longer than their Terran "cousins" and may subsequently expect Pernese women to be able to give birth well into their fifties. A Turn of birth around 2460 fits nicely for a woman that was considered old before her time. A woman who looked old but in fact wasn't really that old when she was observed by F'lar during his visit to Ruatha in 2495 [D1]. I have arbitrarily placed Lord Ashmichel's father as the oldest and Lady Gemma's grandfather as the next oldest child of the children this Lord Holder of Ruatha must have had.

Children (known):
1 N.N. of Ruatha [Redhallig] (son), born c. 2369, follows J-11.
2 N.N. of Ruatha [Dallain] (son), born c. 2371, follows J-12.

J-11

N.N. of Ruatha [Redhallig], Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold, born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2369, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).
Married c. 2395
N.N.
[Milona], Lady Holder of Ruatha Hold, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).

I have arbitrarily made Lord Ashmichel's father the oldest child of this family. Adding the second child was necessary to be able to give Donkin, a Ruathan nephew and fosterling at Fort Hold who is mentioned in The Masterharper of Pern, his place. The third child of this family was necessary as he (or she) is the grandfather of Barla of Ruatha, who was a second cousin of Lord Kale.

Children (known, correct order unsure):
1 N.N. of Ruatha [Mihall] (son), born c. 2395, follows J-111.
2 N.N. of Ruatha [Mallin] (son), born c. 2410, follows J-112.
3 N.N. of Ruatha [Barred] (son), born c. 2420, follows J-113.

J-12

N.N. of Ruatha [Dallain], son of the Lord Holder of Ruatha, born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2371, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).
Married c. 2399
N.N. [Masha], born ca. 2375, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).

A completely unknown couple, needed within this Bloodline because they are the great-grandparents of Gemma. I am following my own hypothesis here in putting Gemma's great-grandfather down as a male from the Ruathan Blood.

1 N.N. of Ruatha [Daimas] (son), born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2400, follows 121.

J-111

N.N of Ruatha. [Mihall], Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold, born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2395, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).
Married c. 2420
N.N.
[Ashwina], born c. 2398, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).

Nothing is known about Lord Ashmichel's father, he will probably not have lived until a ripe old age because it seems reasonable to assume Ashmichel had been Lord Holder for quite a while before he died (c. 2485).

Children (known):
1 Ashmichel of Ruatha, born c. 2420, follows J-111.1.

J-112

N.N. of Ruatha [Mallin], born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2410, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).
Married c. 2435
N.N.
[Donelly], born c. 2410, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).

Yet another unknown couple, needed as the parents of the Ruathan fosterling Donkin who appears in The Masterharper of Pern [MHoP].

Children (known):
1 Donkin of Ruatha, born c. 2435, either died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval) or he might have been killed by Fax's men in 2495.
Donkin is described as "one of the younger Ruathan nephews" in The Masterharper of Pern. He was fostered at Fort Hold around Turn 2457 [MHoP]. Being a nephew he must have been a son of a brother or sister of the Lord Holder of Ruatha, which I have assumed was still Lord Ashmichel's father at the time. Donkin did almost certainly not marry Halanna because Halanna later refused an offer, made by Robinton, to come back to the Harper Hall as a singer (he even offered her a mastery) on the grounds that she did not want to "live in this cold all the time', which indicates a marriage (she was married and a mother by then) with someone from -- and living in -- Nerat, Keroon or maybe South Boll [MHoP].

J-113

N.N of Ruatha [Barred], born c. 2420, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).
Married c. 2445
N.N.
[Rheala], born c. 2422, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).

An unknown couple, needed within this Bloodline because they are the grandparents of Barla, the woman of Ruathan Blood who married Dowel and who was the mother of Aramina, Pell and Nexa [RoP; GWHD; DoP]. I have assumed that Barla's descent was through a male line, in this case a younger brother of Lord Ashmichel.

Children (known):
1 N.N. [Laraid] (son), follows J-113.1.

J-121

N.N. of Ruatha [Daimas], born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2400, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).
Married c. 2425
N.N.
[Jalma], born c. 2400, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval).

A completely unknown couple, needed within this Bloodline because they are the grandparents of Gemma. I am following my own hypothesis here in putting Gemma's grandfather down as a male from the Ruathan Blood, whose daughter married a (Lord) Holder's son from Crom, hence the designation of his only known child as a daughter.

Children (known):
1 N.N. of Ruatha [Emmah] (daughter), born c. 2430, follows 121.1.

J-111.1

Ashmichel of Ruatha, Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold (?-c. 2485), born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2420, died probably Ruatha Hold c. 2485 (definitely between 2483 and spring 2488).
Married c. 2445
N.N.
[Kaledin], died probably Ruatha Hold prior to 2483.

Lady Relna of Crom and her two youngest children begged sanctuary from Lord Ashmichel and Lady Adessa after Fax overtook Crom Hold in 2483 [MHoP/15:328-329]. This means Ashmichel was still Lord of Ruatha at the time. This reference can be confusing because from the text in The Masterharper of Pern it seems that Lady Adessa is also the name of Lord Ashmichel's spouse, which it isn't. Further on in The Masterharper of Pern Lady Adessa is mentioned as the Lady Holder of Ruatha when Kale has taken over as Lord Holder: "Lady Adessa had certainly taken Hold here" [MHoP/17:369]. I have taken this to mean that Ashmichel's wife died before he did and that his daughter-in-law already acted as Lady of the Hold before her spouse became Lord Holder.

Children (known):
1 Kale of Ruatha, born c. 2450, follows J-111.11.

J-113.1

N.N. of Ruatha [Laraid], born c. 2445, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval) (prior to 2495, possibly due to an illness).
Married: c. 2470 N.N. [Bardina], born ca. 2448, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval) (prior to 2495, possibly due to an illness).

Nothing is known about the parents of Barla of Ruatha, except that one of them, probably her father, must have been a first cousin to Lord Ashmichel because Barla is said to be a second cousin of Lord Kale [RoP/prologue:5]. Barla's parents will probably have both died before Fax took over Ruatha and Dowell and Barla fled the Hold. The possibility that they were killed at the orders of Fax, of course, remains.

Children (known):
1 Barla of Ruatha, follows J-113.11.

J-121.1

N.N. of Ruatha [Emmah], born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2430, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval), probably prior to c. 2481 (when her daughter Gemma married Fax).
Married c. 2455
N.N.
[Gerdine], born probably Crom Hold c. 2425, probably a son of a (Lord) Holder of Crom, died during the Second Long Interval (Eight Interval), probably prior to c. 2481 (when his daughter Gemma married Fax).

Yet another couple about which is known very little but that is needed here because they are the parents of Lady Gemma of Crom. This is how Lady Gemma gets her Ruathan Blood: because her mother was of the Ruathan Blood and married a son of a (Lord) Holder of Crom. If he was a son of one of the Lord Holders, he must have been a younger son and not the heir. It's also possible that even Gemma's father was of Ruathan stock, but then Lady Gemma would have been Gemma of Ruatha before she became a Lady of Crom, which in that case could only be by marriage. I have opted for the likelier possibility of her mother being of Ruathan Blood and her father a member of the Crom Bloodline.

Children (known):
1 Gemma of Crom, born probably Crom Hold c. 2460, follows 121.11.

J-111.11

Kale of Ruatha, Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold (probably c. 2485-2495), born probably Ruatha Hold c. 2450, died Ruatha Hold third-month 2495 (killed when Fax conquered the Hold).
Married c. 2475
Adessa, Lady Holder of Ruatha Hold, born c. 2450, died Ruatha Hold third-month 2495 (killed when Fax conquered the Hold).

Lord Kale became Lord Holder of Ruatha between 2483 (the Turn in which Fax conquers Crom Hold and in which his father is still Lord of Ruatha, giving sanctuary to Lady Relna of Crom and her two youngest children) and 2488 (when Robinton visits him that Turn he's mentioned to be Lord Holder) [MHoP].
In The Masterharper of Pern we can read that Lady Relna of Crom and her two youngest children begged sanctuary of "Lord Ashmichel and Lady Adessa at Ruatha" [MHoP/15:330]. I have taken this to mean that Lord Ashmichel's spouse died prior to 2483 since it seems highly unlikely that Ashmichel's wife would also have been called Adessa. It is certain that Lord Kale's wife is named Adessa from other references in the same book and from the fact that Lessa is obviously "named after" her mother, Adessa.

Children:
1 An unknown number of unspecified children/brothers [RoP/prologue:5], born Ruatha Hold between c. 2475 en 2485 and died (killed) there 2495. There were at least several sons in this family. After Fax's soldiers have visited the mountainhold of Barla and Dowel she remarks: "Could he [Fax] have murdered all in Ruatha Hold? His [Kale's] lady? Lessa and her brothers?". This remark makes clear Lessa had brothers and more or less indicates that Lessa was the only girl.
2 Lessa of Ruatha / of Benden Weyr, born Ruatha Hold 2485, follows J-111.112.

J-113.11

Barla of Ruatha, born c. 2470, probably died around the end of the Ninth Pass.
Married probably somewhere in Ruatha c. 2494
Dowell, born c. 2470, holder at Ruatha forest, forester, woodcrafter, carpenter/woodjoiner at Ruatha, Keroon Beasthold, Igen and Lemos, probably died around the end of the Ninth Pass.

Barla was pregnant many times but only the three children survived. Her first child (a boy) was born prematurely and died in 2496.

Children:

1

N.N. (son), born prematurely/died Ruatha 2496.

2

Aramina of Paradise River Hold [Mina, Ara], Lady Holder of Paradise River Hold, born while traveling in the mountains of Fort 2497/2498, follows J-113.112.
3 Pell, born Keroon Beasthold c. 2503, woodjoiner, probably died after the end of the Ninth Pass.
Married
N.N., , probably died after the end of the Ninth Pass.
She is the "dark and pretty girl" who is mentioned as Pell's fiancé and whom he introduced to Lord Jaxom and Lady Sharra at the Ruathan Gather at which Master Robinton was abducted [AtWoP/17:372].
4 Nexa, born Keroon Beasthold 2507, probably died after the end of the Ninth Pass.

J-121.11

Gemma of Crom, born probably Crom Hold c. 2460, died Ruatha Hold 28 third-month 2505.

It was said that Gemma and Fax had "an unpopular and hurried wedding" [RoP-US/5].

Children (known):
1 Several daughters who probably all died in infancy or at a young age. In 2505 Fax introduces Gemma to F'lar as "the mother of my heirs", which must mean that there must have been daughters born since Fax had been unable to get a (male) heir with any of his ladies [D1].
2 Jaxom of Ruatha, Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold, follows J-121.112.

J-111.112

Husband (not formally married)
Jayge Lilcamp, Lord Holder of Paradise River Hold, born c. 2497/2498 (ten Turns old during the Threadfall on the Lilcamp train) [RoP-US/159], formerly a trader (Lilcamp and Lilcamp-Amhold trains) and guard, owner of several fire lizards one of them a bronze called Tork, probably died after the end of the Ninth Pass; son of Crenden Lilcamp and his first wife Gledia.

Jayge is a direct descendant of Joel Lilienkamp (nicknamed Lili), supercargo of the Yokohama and surface coordinator.
Jayge and Aramina set out for the Southern Continent [RoP-US: about 30 months prior to 22 fifth-month PP 15] but their ship was wrecked and, together with some of the crew members, they were saved by shipfish (dolphins) and beached at the location of ancient Paradise River Stake (later Paradise River Hold).
Jayge and Aramina had eight fire lizards among them: two golds, three bronzes and three browns [RoP-US/206, 214].

Sharra of Southern Hold/Ruatha Hold, [Shar, Sharrie], Lady Holder of Ruatha Hold, born c. 2503, Journeywoman Healer, went from High Palisades Hold in Ista to Southern Hold (to her brother Toric)
, died after the end of the Ninth Pass.

Both children of Jaxom and Sharra were born at Ruatha Hold [AtWoP/10:229].
Sharra is said to be "a Turn or two" older than Jaxom [RoP-US/242].

Children (known, probably more):
1 Jarrol of Ruatha, born Ruatha Hold 2524, died after the end of the Ninth Pass. The "ol" part of Jarrol's name is probably derived from the name of Lytol, who was many Turns Lord Warder of Ruatha Hold and guardian of Jaxom.
2 Shawan of Ruatha, born Ruatha Hold 2528, died after the end of the Ninth Pass.

J-111.112.1

F’lessan of Benden Weyr/Honshu Weyr Hold (Felessan), born 2508 (F'lessan was three years Jaxom's junior), rider of bronze Golanth (Impressed 23 fourth-month 2518), probably died after the end of the Ninth Pass.
Had a relationship with
Nera, a weyrgirl.
Had a relationship with
Faselly, a weyrgirl.
Had a relationship with
Brinna, a weyrgirl.
Weyrmate of
Tai of Monaco Bay Weyr/Honshu Weyrhold, born Keroon c. 2515 (in her mid-twenties when she meets F'lessan), rider of green Zaranth (Impressed unexpectedly in AAT 2549), apprentice Starsmith (was apprenticed to Master Wansor)
, probably died after the end of the Ninth Pass; daughter of N.N., a Journeyman Smith, and N.N.

F'lessan, though stationed at Benden Weyr, flew often as wingsecond with Eastern and Southern Weyr.
Tai was born somewhere in Keroon. Her family (father, mother, brothers and at least one sister) came to Southern where her father (a Journeyman Smith) and probably her brothers (apprentice smiths), too helped at Landing during the "Aivas years". Her sister who, contrary to Tai, did not like school, was apparently younger than Tai.

Children (known; three sons one each by the abovementioned weyrgirls) [AtWoP/10:224]. There were probably children out of his relationship with green rider Tai, too. However, their number and names are unknown to us.

Out of the relationship with Nera:
